Prince Harry expects to be a target for home-grown terrorists after news of his deployment in Afghanistan was leaked today.
But the 23-year-old army officer has rejected talk of extra security back in the UK, saying he is used to threats, and had expected to be a “top target” in Afghanistan if his secret came out.
“I think there’s a lot of guys here who hopefully won’t be targeted but … now everyone will know I’m out here no doubt I’ll be a top target.”
Addressing concerns of continued threats from extremists back home, he said: “I suppose I would be in that position anyway, just being part of that family”.
“Once this … comes out, every single person that supports them (the Taliban) will be trying to slot me,” he said.
“Now that you come to think about it it’s quite worrying.”
But he said: “There are threats that come in the whole time, not as many as you’d expect, hopefully”
And he joked: “I’ll be taking my pistol home with me hopefully.”
News of Harry’s Afghan deployment broke this morning after a US website ignored a news blackout.
Now the secrets out details of interviews given during his deployment can be released.
While in the desert, he wore a sheathed Gurkha kukri in his body armor almost constantly.
Spotted without his kukri he joked: “It’s over in my vehicle, ah, I feel unsafe.”
