Rudy Hermann Guede, Meredith Kercher

A fugitive suspect (Rudy Hermann Guede) in the gruesome murder of a British exchange student (Meredith Kercher) has been arrested after an undercover policeman befriended the man on Facebook and convinced him to return to Italy.


John Gaumer, Josie Phyllis

John Gaumer met single mother Josie Phyllis of Baltimore on Myspace, and killed her on their first date in late 2005. She was beaten with a tree branch and dumped down a highway embankment. Gaumer, who was 22 at the time of the crime, led police to her body and confessed.


Heather Kane

Heather Kane, of Arizona, was arrested in 2006 when she tried to hire an undercover cop to kill her boyfriend after seeing photos of him with another woman on MySpace.


Sean Price

In Canada, police forced a murder suspect to turn himself in after a video they posted on YouTube of the man at a Sean Price concert received more than 30,000 hits.


Karen Borden

On the morning of November 13, 2005, then 14-year-old Karen Borden logged onto her Myspace profile. Just a few hours later, she watched as her 18-year-old boyfriend fatally shot her parents. The case was one of the first in which police used evidence from the website to land a conviction.


Oakland murder

Just recently the son of a police detective was arrested in Oakland after a photo posted on a local gang’s Myspace page linked him to the murder of a 17-year-old gridiron player.

A high school student was arrested in New York earlier this year for posting a YouTube video which asked people to murder his maths teacher.


Chris Collings, David Spears, Rowan Ford

Chris Collings and David Spears have been arrested on charges of raping and murdering Spears’ stepdaughter Rowan Ford in Missouri. Police investigators learned more about the suspects from Collings’ Myspace page — which featured images of grim reapers and sexual acts.


Jokela massacre

The teenager who killed eight people in a high school shooting in southern Finland earlier this month posted a warning video on YouTube just hours before carrying out the massacre.
