Beverly Hills CopA FEDERAL agent who ransacked houses and made arrests in the “methamphetamine capital” of the US was an impostor on a personal anti-drug campaign, local media reports.

The New York Times reports 36-year-old Bill A Jakob, known in the town of Gerald, Missouri, as “Sergeant Bill”, was an unemployed former cop and former security guard who appeared to have borrowed ideas from Eddie Murphy’s Beverly Hills Cop movies.

The newspaper said that just a day before he was allegedly revealed to be a fake, the city council voted to make Mr Jakob a reserve officer so he could enforce local laws.

Mr Jakob is likely to face charges over impersonating an officer and three of the five local police officers have been fired over the scandal.

The drug arrests are also in doubt, at least 17 people have filed multimillion-dollar civil rights lawsuits, and a petition is calling for the local mayor to be impeached.

Mayor Otis Schulte told the newspaper that Mr Jakob seemed like the real deal.

“It was the movie, Catch Me if You Can all over again,” said Mr Schulte, referring to the 2002 film starring Leonardo DiCaprio. “I’m telling you, with this guy, everything was right.”
